I have lots of pictures from today, some "better" than this, but this will always be the picture that defines today. It is the day that we got to tour the White House. We couldn't take any pictures inside, and had to turn our cell phones off, but when we came out the door the guards let us take a picture (but wouldn't take it for us) with our phone.
Interesting fact that we learned today. Often they only have white house tours when the president is travelling, and he was supposed to be gone all week this week, so they had lots of tours scheduled. But, his trip got cancelled, and there was a BP press conference on Wednesday, so they had to cancel tours for a few hours to allow the president to move freely through the east wing of the building. Then yesterday they had to cancel tours so that the president could have lunch in the formal dining room with some guests. No tours were cancelled today, but Jonathan was pretty excited by the idea that the he might have actually been in the building at the same time as the President, which apparently is more rare than we thought.
We also saw the Memorials today (Vietnam, Korea and Lincoln), and had an excellent pizza dinner at a nice place up in Dupont Circle reccomended to me by a friend.
We still have quite a list of things we would like to see, and need to leave tomorrow. We plan to get up early and head down to the Air and Space Museum, which we somehow haven't seen yet, and then maybe swing by the Postal Museum to mail our post cards with the special stamp and postmark that they have there, and then we will hit the road, so we get can relieve Mark of his house and dog sitting duties, and get Jonathan home for his Summer Enrichment classes (which he is so excited about!).
