April 27th, 2011When we moved to Wisconsin we learned that one of my students, Jay Valai, had come to UW Madison to play football, and is in his 5th year and is a captain of hte football team.
Jonathan quickly decided that Jay is his hero. We watched football games, and he wanted a jersy and football cards for Christmas and his birthday.
I finally got up the nerve to contact Jay. I was kind of afraid that he wouldn't want to talk to me. I did teach Physics, which isn't generally a fan favorite with High School students. I was at the Spring Football game and I saw him hanging out on the sidelines, and called him over.
Thankfully he wasn't upset to see me, and he agreed to meet Jonathan after school one day before he going back to Texas, for the year.
It took a two tries, but we met up with him, and he even signed Jonathan's coveted #2 jersey!
