July 7th

July 7th, 2010

Today the boys played in the pool in the morning and then this afternoon we drove down to a nice sandy beach. Jonathan had a great time on the boogie board. He spent about an hour and half working on catching waves... even after everyone else went back to the beach because it had started raining, he kept on working at it. Before we left the beach he had a little lesson on how to stand on the surfboard. Tomorrow he is hopeful that his lesson will be on the surfboard and he will get to stand up and ride a wave. The nice thing about this beach is that you can go pretty far out and still stand (for example this picture was taken by me standing with my feet in the water... and I had my zoom on like 10x and I further zoomed and cropped in photoshop and if Jonathan had stood up riht here (with out a wave crest hitting him) the water would have been just over his waist. This made it easy for him to keep practicing while we all tried our hand at beachcombing and I didn't have any panic attacks about him drowning!

Nicholas tried out the boogie board but fell off and then spent the rest of the time building a sand castle and combing the beach for driftwood. He found a piece that he has decided to turn into a surfboard tomorrow. I wish him luck. We collected a ton of shells to make windchimes out of. The house we are staying in has beautiful shell and sand dollar windchimes and we plan to copy them to have one at home! We got 11 whole sand dollars today (and some partial ones)... it was pretty exciting!
